Bulgarian Customs Seizes a Record Number of Counterfeit Kitchen Knives

On 19.10.2018 the customs officials at Bulgaria’s Black Sea border point in Varna seized 3024 counterfeit sets of professional kitchen knives bearing the well-known Japanese trade mark “GLOBAL YOSHIKIN”.

The counterfeit goods were found in a container that was loaded in China and the recipient was a Bulgarian company. Each of the 3024 sets of professional kitchen knives contained 11 steel knives which were placed in cases bearing word and figurative signs “GLOBAL YOSHIKIN”. The shipment contained a total number of 36 288 items whereby 33264 were knives and 3024 were cases.

The shipment was seized in accordance with Art. 17(1) of EU Regulation № 608/2013 and following a notification on the seizure the right holder Yoshida Metal Industry Co Ltd has confirmed that the goods are counterfeit.

The average value of each knife depending on its size varies from 50 to 150 EUR. The total value of the seized knives is estimated to be several million EUR.
